Zebra ZD420 Linerless Setup Guide
Industrial-grade setup guide for Zebra ZD-series desktop printers with linerless label capability.
Setup Steps
- 1
Access media compartment
Press the release latches on both sides of the printer to open the media cover. Lift the cover fully.
- 2
Install linerless platen roller
If not already installed, replace the standard platen roller with the linerless-specific roller kit (sold separately).
Warning: Using linerless media without the correct platen roller can cause adhesive buildup and printer damage.
- 3
Load the media roll
Place the roll on the media hanger with labels facing up. Adjust the media guides to match roll width.
- 4
Thread through guides
Route the media under the media guide, over the platen roller, and out the front of the printer.
- 5
Close and calibrate
Close the media cover. Press and hold the PAUSE button to initiate automatic media calibration.
- 6
Configure via ZPL
Send ZPL commands or use Zebra Setup Utilities to configure: media type (continuous), print speed, and darkness.
Tip: For linerless, set media tracking to continuous mode (^MNM in ZPL).
- 7
Set label length
Configure the default label length in your print driver or via ZPL command (^LL).
- 8
Test print
Print a configuration label and sample labels to verify all settings are correct.
